It’s that time again, when design experts are sharing what styles will influence the new year.
As we continue living and working in the same space, many homeowners have added renovating the hardest working room in their home, the kitchen, to their “2021 To Do list.” After all, if we’re staying home, we might as well make it as functional and comfortable as possible.
Kane Home Cabinetry and Design’s head designer, Janine Severyns, has put together six trends that she expects to explode in 2021…
1. Nature-Inspired Design

According to the National Kitchen and Bath Association (NKBA) annual trends report, organic and natural style kitchens have skyrocketed to one of the top three design trends for 2021. To achieve a nature-inspired kitchen, bring the outside in with organic colors and textures. When using sisal, bamboo, woven light fixtures, and other natural elements, you’ll create a tranquil space that makes the room feel like an extension of the outside world.
2. Smart Appliances

With more of us staying at home, we’re investing in appliances that Jane Jetson would envy. As demand increases, most manufacturers are offering Bluetooth units that can remotely send alerts and save energy. For early adopters, you can find dishwashers that operate remotely, watch the progress or your roast cooking in your oven from a mobile device, and add groceries to your interactive shopping list through your refrigerator.
3. Simple Design with a Pop of Drama

Classic white kitchens that work with almost any style are holding strong, but this year look for the addition of an attractive focal point. Consider adding an unexpected backsplash, colorful tile behind the stove, or a standout island. It’s a great way to add a twist and can change the feel of your kitchen.
4. Mix Finish Colors

2021 is the year of expressing yourself. Mix different colors to create your unique style. Try dark base cabinets combined with lighter wall units or a different finish island to add depth and character to the space. The mix of colors adds excitement and personalizes the design.
5. Mixed Metal Hardware

Long gone are the days of stainless steel throughout the kitchen. Mix and match faucets, lights, and hardware to give your space an updated look. Often overlooked, these finishing touches bring your kitchen design together. Combine antique brass, oil rubbed bronze, and stainless steel to transform your kitchen design.
6. Creative Storage

The past year has changed where we eat and how we cook. Not only are at-home chefs buying more groceries they’re also purchasing appliances and gadgets. 2021’s well-outfitted kitchen will include plenty of storage in the form of a pantry or cabinets with large interior drawers. Hidden and strategic storage areas keep your kitchen organized while maintaining a sleek, clean look.
This year, give yourself the freedom to explore different design elements. Play with organic textures or add a pop of drama that makes your kitchen unique. By creating interest and personalizing the space, you’ll enjoy your kitchen long beyond 2021.
